Pac-Man! The game that gobbled up a nation’s quarters while its hero gobbled up those annoying Ghost Monsters spawned sequels, spin-offs, toys, games and more. Taking note of Pac-Man’s avid fan base, famed carton studio Hanna-Barbera hit upon the idea of adapting the game for Saturday morning animation – becoming the first video game to make the jump to TV. Kids were immediately enraptured and a score of other arcade favorites soon followed Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man and Baby Pac-Man from the gaming console to the cathode ray tube. In this 2-Disc, 13-Episode collection, Pac-Man does battle with Inky, Blinky, Pinky, Clyde and Sue, the Ghost Monster minions of the dreaded Mezmaron, who lusts after Pac-land’s precious power spheres. Aided by his plucky and charming wife and son, Pac-Man saves the Pac-President, confronts the vampiric Pacula, discovers the Abominable Pac-Man and more. Pac-Venture awaits – no quarters required!

Comments about Pac-Man: The Complete First Season (2 DVD):
I was actually quite surprised at the quality of the picture on this set. Some older cartoons don't hold up to the test of time. However, the remastered picture looks fantastic. My only disappointment with the set is that it could've been a 4-disc complete series set, rather than just a first season set. It took Warner forever to finish releasing the Silverhawks series. I simply don't want to wait that long between releases. My worse fear is that the second season gets forgotten about or shelved.
Comments about Pac-Man: The Complete First Season (2 DVD):
It's great that this show is now available on DVD, even if it is an MOD release. I played this on a Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-Ray player, and it works great. As it happens, I like video games, but this show is still classic Hanna-Barbera at its core (it even had an episode where Pac-Man accidentally makes Pac-Baby disappear; the kind of plot you'd often find in a Hanna-Barbera production), so it's all good. If there's anything "bad" about this release, it's that the episodes could be more evenly spaced out. Disc 1 has 9 of the first season's 13 episodes, while Disc 2 has the remaining 4. Personally, I would have liked to have had something like 7 episodes on one disc and 6 on the other (since 13 is an odd number). In any case, I hope we'll get the second season soon. I would personally recommend this to anyone who likes Hanna-Barbera, regardless if they like video games or not.

Comments about Pac-Man: The Complete First Season (2 DVD):
I'm a huge fan of this show, and I have all the episodes already, but I was eager to purchase this set. My interest is the remastering; I wanted to see how the cartoon would look at its most vibrant. No 30 year old cartoon looked as colorful on broadcast TV as all these cartoons do now once they are remastered, because they weren't prepared for broadcast then with the digital methods now available. As a result, the show looks much more saturated than anyone remembers, which is great for this cartoon - the pinks and oranges are bright, and everything is a lot crisper than I'm used to seeing. This also highlights the animation sloppiness (the edges of moving cells are visible as they go across the screen, uneven painting from frame to frame is apparent), but I love hand-drawn animation, so this doesn't bother me at all.
But something happens at the end of the 2nd disc - the last few episodes suddenly become the washed out, unfocused versions that have been floating around forever. The pinks are almost white, lines are blurry, and they look vastly different than the other episodes. I can only assume whatever sources were used for the majority of the episodes were unavailable for these. (I hope it wasn't simply a choice dictated by time and convenience.)
I was disappointed that some episodes haven't gotten the same remastering attentions as most of the others, but the set overall is what I was expecting. I think anyone buying this probably is doing so for their own nostalgic reasons; it's hard to imagine recommending it to someone who hasn't seen it before. But it's a classic for those of us who remember it as kids.
Most of all - I hope Warner Archive releases the rest of the show!

Comments about Pac-Man: The Complete First Season (2 DVD):
This set was fun and nostalgic. The remastering was mostly fantastic except for "The Pac-Mummy" and "Nighty Nightmares" which looked a bit out of focus. A bit disappointing that one of the discs can't be played back on my PC's DVD drive.
